Today I’m talking to you about leather jackets, how to choose them and the correct market cost for a good quality jacket.

What I am telling you is part of our company policy for the choice and creation of leather garments. First of all, we use lamb or sheep skins deriving from animals killed for the food chain: we do not use the skins of animals bred in captivity for the sole production of fur, such as mink or beaver. Having said that, sheep and lambskins are a product with important technical characteristics, such as softness and thermal insulation, which allow them to be well protected from the elements.

The fundamental thing is the choice of the type of tanning” that is used to treat the skins and purify them of impurities. In fact, there are two types of tanning: that with Trivalent Chromium and that with Vegetable Tannins. Trivalent chrome processing is not even taken into consideration by our company as it is a process based on highly polluting heavy metals. We only use leather processed with vegetable tannins which derive from the grinding of plant parts with the bark; this process is more expensive and can last up to two months but it does not pollute: the leather maintains a natural appearance and your body does not come into contact with chemical substances that could generate allergies. Leathers are classified based on the “grain” which is the appearance of the surface of the leather: it must not have imperfections. We only use first choice leather.

To make a good quality jacket, you need approximately 4 lambskins which correspond to approximately Euro 84.00 or 2.2 sheepskins which correspond to approximately Euro 82.00. In the case of leathers with special finishes such as antiqued, vintage or python printed effects, the cost of the leather could triple.
In addition to the cost of the leather, the cost of the lining and accessories such as zips, buttons and studs must be added. Obviously there are the costs of producing the jacket to add which vary depending on the model and the quantity of accessories.

Therefore, a good quality leather jacket, of simple construction, cannot cost less than Euro 250.00 / 300.00: below this figure it is not possible to have a product that reflects the minimum conditions that we guarantee to our friends.”
