Furniture, let’s talk about the wax finish

Dear friends, good morning from Julia and the Julia Art staff, I want to talk to you about the finishes we apply to the Julia Art furniture collection.

Neutral or Pigmented Wax depends on whether the wax used is transparent or coloured, the wax we use in our furniture is natural and derives from beeswax treated with Turpentine which can be of two types, either Turpentine of petrochemical origin or Pure Turpentine Gemma which is derived from the distillation of pine resins, be careful, Pure Gemma Turpentine also has a rather high percentage of toxicity. You can also use water-based wax but it is less protective, or water-based wax. Limonene but has a large degree of toxicity. Treating furniture with Wax allows you to obtain high protection and is perfectly water-repellent.

The Julia Art technicians have chosen the right compromise and have chosen Pura Gemma Turpentine Wax for the treatment of the furniture. The pigments for the various colors must then be added to the wax, the pigments are powders composed of iron oxides and hydroxides (yellow and red), manganese oxides (black), calcium phosphate (white), these various powders, they must then be mixed with oils or water and combined with the wax. Waxes should be applied to furniture with a brush or more often with a woolen cloth.
